Job description
The Registered Nurse ā Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at KCH provides critical care to children from infancy to 15 years of age. The role involves delivering advanced nursing care, supporting medical procedures, managing critical care technology, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Nurses in this unit are responsible for continuously monitoring patient conditions, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting families, and participating in audits and reporting. They must demonstrate expertise in pediatric intensive care, including ventilator and advanced airway management, while upholding high standards of patient care and documentation.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to PICU patients.
- Prepare and administer medications under aseptic technique as ordered.
- Assist PICU physicians with medical procedures.
- Operate advanced medical equipment including ventilators and monitoring devices.
- Formulate and evaluate nursing care plans and treatment outcomes.
- Comply with DHA guidelines and clinical regulations.
- Manage level 3 critical care interventions including advanced airway and inotropic support.
- Handle central and arterial lines and interpret arterial blood gases.
- Implement infection control and pain management strategies.
- Update patients and families with sensitive, accurate information regularly.
- Support the centreās nursing strategy and uphold its values.
- Respect patientsā cultural and religious beliefs, ensuring dignity and privacy.
- Provide emotional support and explanations to families regarding patient care.
- Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure proper communication and documentation of patient care and instructions.
- Work flexibly to maintain staffing levels and meet development goals.
- Participate in nursing audits and report adverse incidents per policy.
- Maintain accurate and compliant patient health records.
Experience & skills
- Valid UAE DHA license.
- Bachelorās degree in Nursing or equivalent diploma (min. 2-year course).
- Registered Nurse certification from UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa.
- Minimum 2 yearsā experience in a hospital or similar healthcare setting.
- Certified in Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Ongoing CPD participation and strong patient care skills.
- Knowledge in medical software and basic computer literacy.
- Ability to work under pressure in dynamic environments.
- Problem-solving and first-response capability for unexpected issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills across different professional groups.
