Job description
The Payments Architect is responsible for leading the strategic transition from MT to MX messaging formats within the payments infrastructure. This role will design robust and scalable payment architectures, integrate new messaging standards into legacy and modern systems, and ensure full compliance with SWIFT and regulatory standards. The architect will provide technical direction, manage vendor relationships, support cloud deployments, and deliver training and documentation. They must also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities and domain expertise within financial services.

Key responsibilities
- Oversee the migration from MT to MX messaging formats, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruption to payment operations.
- Develop and implement robust payment architecture strategies that support the new MX messaging standards.
- Collaborate with IT and business teams to integrate MX messaging into existing systems.
- Identify design and development tools for effective integration development tasks in coordination with development teams and vendors.
- Ensure all payment systems comply with SWIFT standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to development teams, ensuring best practices in payment processing and messaging.
- Evaluate vendors and manage technical RFP processes.
- Optimize payment processing systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Create comprehensive documentation and provide training on MX messaging standards and processes.
- Engage with stakeholders to communicate transition progress, challenges, and solutions.
Experience & skills
- Hands-on knowledge of payment technologies, architecture frameworks, and integration platforms.
- Experience transitioning from MT to MX messaging formats.
- Knowledge of API specifications for REST or Web Services.
- Familiarity with API and interface governance, design standards, and principles.
- Cloud deployment experience with AWS or Azure.
- Knowledge in hardware sizing and designing high-availability and scalable application architectures.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in a client-facing or business-facing role, including communicating with senior management.
- Understanding of the financial services industry and related regulatory standards.
- Professional certification is a plus.
