Job description
We are seeking a seasoned Credit Specialist (VP level) to join our Private Banking & Wealth Management (PBWM) platform in Dubai. This role is critical to our regional growth ambitions and supports the ongoing management of approximately 120 borrowing relationships within the Dubai credit portfolio. The successful candidate will play a key role in annual credit reviews, ongoing risk monitoring, and driving new credit business aligned to strategic targets. This role requires a deep understanding of private banking credit environments, the ability to originate and structure credit, and a strong command of internal systems and compliance requirements. A high degree of strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and product knowledge will be expected, in line with Barclaysâ leadership and performance values.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end process of annual credit reviews for all clients, ensuring timely and accurate completion in compliance with internal policies
- Oversee a mixed portfolio of credit relationships, including identifying risk exposures, recommending credit actions, and tracking performance
- Support the origination, structuring, and documentation of new credit transactions in collaboration with Relationship Managers and internal stakeholders
- Actively monitor market volatility and client risk exposures using systems such as Avaloq
- Take proactive steps to resolve potential credit issues
- Serve as a key liaison between the Credit Risk team, Bankers, and Clients
- Ensure all credit decisions and documentation are properly recorded and updated through internal systems including Gateway and Avaloq
- Contribute to the delivery of credit-related business targets and the platformâs broader commercial objectives
- Provide SME expertise on specific financial products and services to customers and colleagues
- Analyze data from sales figures and customer feedback to support product origination and development
- Respond to customer inquiries and attend client meetings to originate credit and resolve issues
- Present product advantages and features to potential customers
- Participate in internal training and workshops to share product knowledge
- Participate in events and conferences to showcase credit solutions and generate business interest
- Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches
- Define jobs and responsibilities and counsel employees on performance if in a people management role
- Demonstrate leadership behaviours to create an environment for colleagues to thrive and deliver excellent standards
- Train, guide, and coach less experienced specialists
- Advise senior management on areas of impact and alignment
- Manage and mitigate risks through assessment and support the governance agenda
- Collaborate with business-aligned support areas to keep up with business strategies
- Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought and define problems with innovative approaches
- Seek out, build, and maintain trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Experience & skills
- Proven experience in writing and structuring new credit transactions in a private banking or corporate credit environment
- Strong background in risk monitoring and mitigation
- Strong analytical skills with detailed understanding of credit risk
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Familiarity with Avaloq and Gateway credit systems (preferred)
- Competence in reviewing and analysing financial statements
- Prior experience in private banking or wealth management credit environment is a strong plus
- Experience in responding to client inquiries and building trust with stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage risk and strengthen controls
- Leadership experience or ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and coach others
